Upgrades:

  • Upgraded carbon synchronizer set-up. This is the most essential upgrade for any MT82. The original brass synchros do not synchronize very quickly. Believe it or not we find that almost every original OEM brass synchro is in great shape when we disassemble these units. Good right? No. The slow synchronization speed of these brass rings means that you CANNOT shift this transmission the way that you should be able to shift it. It's a MUSTANG for crying out loud. NOT your grandfather's 4 cyl s10 pickup. Unfortunately when you try to shift fast with the Ford brass synchros the transmission is being shifted before it is ready... This leads to a TON of excessive damage and wear to the engagement teeth on the sliders and gears. When you couple this with the fact that the MT82 has very small, precise and fragile engagement teeth... This is a recipe for disaster. Utilizing a high-performance set of carbon synchros allows the rotating mass of the mainshaft/countershaft to come to an abrupt stop (relative to one another) ensuring that the transmission is ready to make the shift before you even are. The shifting prowess of the MT82 is now finally unlocked. With this upgrade the MT82 truly is one of the fastest, smoothest shifting sports car transmissions on the road.

  • Upgraded Bearings: The Coyote 5.0 needs no introduction. It is a high-revving beautiful feat of engineering. The high revving nature of this engine means that the bearings are subjected to an INSANE amount of side-loading every time you release the clutch. The centrifugal thrust (from helical gears) combined with high RPM's spells high demand from the bearings on these transmissions. They do have a high failure rate. The Input bearing is the most susceptible to failure. We install our proprietary input, counter and mainshaft bearings made out of Ford OEM's. We disassemble new Ford bearings and send them off for cryogenic treatment. This effectively mitigates damage/wear caused by high-rpm shifting as well as wear caused by stout one-piece driveshafts and shock loading on the output of the transmission.

  • Upgraded shift pads: As many people know Ford opted to use plastic shift pads on these transmissions. Most manuals are made with this same type of plastic interface between the shift fork and slider in order to save on production costs. While we do find that the upgraded carbon synchros mitigate most of this damage to the plastic shift pads, we still opt to install billet bronze shift pads for peace of mind. We've never seen a failed bronze shift pad.

  • Billet shift stop: Of all things that Ford should be ashamed of this is probably it. The bump stop that limits travel of the shifting mechanism is made out of plastic. Every time you bang through those gears that tiny little piece of plastic get's beat into submission until it crack and breaks. When it breaks it is a total nightmare of a failure. Ford execs may have saved about three entire cents per transmission on production costs by using a plastic piece for this. We move to a billet brass shift stop. We have never seen one of these fail.

  • Cryogenic Treatment: The hard parts in this build are cryogenically treated. The fragile nature of the engagement teeth get's reinforced by this process to withstand rep after rep. The 8620 alloy gear steel used in this transmission responds particularly well to cryogenic treatment. The surface hardness of the case-hardened gears get's increased and the core toughness also increases from this process.

Each transmission comes with a 12 month warranty that covers any builder's negligence associated with our work. If there's one thing that sets us apart in this market it is our willingness to stand behind our product. Competitors often refuse to warranty these transmissions even when they clearly advertise a warranty. We get it, it is hard to warranty a transmission intended for high-performance applications that get's abused on a daily basis. However, DON'T ADVERTISE a warranty if you refuse to help anybody that calls in with a problem.

By making this purchase the customer agrees to send in core. Once the core is received and evaluated RoadRunner transmission will release the upgraded unit to the customer. Please email for more information. We prefer to establish contact and set the table with our customers before proceeding with any build. We do not wish to sell you something that you do not need. Thank you
